Hello, my name is Walt, I served in the Navy during the 50's and 60's.
My life in the service began on board the U.S.S Northampton CLC-1,
it was,( at the time ) the Atlantic Fleet's Chief Communications Vessel.
I was soon transferred to the U.S.S. Long Beach CG ( N ) 9.
The first surface Vessel in the Navy to be Nuclear Powered.
After my discharge, I signed up in the Seabees Reserve for two years.

She was Captained by Capt. Eugene P. Wilkinson, The original
Commander of the submarine U.S.S. Nautilus, ( also the first
nuclear sub ).  For many years, the Long Beach was the  " Flag
ship" of the Atlantic Fleet .

My years in the military have taught me so many things, and
I feel that I am a better person for having had the experience.
My advice to any youngster who may be reading this is ,
" Join the service, stay in, get educated, see as much of this world as
you can and then you will be in control of your own destiny".
